“Of Regional Origin”
Be a Winner with Home Quality
Since 1997, the “Of Regional Origin” initiative has been promoting high-quality products and services offered by small and medium-sized businesses in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region. The aim is to keep such firms going and to strengthen them economically. For there are many good reasons to shop on your doorstep:
- Producer and consumer are near to each other, thus guaranteeing fresh products of high quality and affording the consumer an insight into the origin of the products.
- Supporting regional firms helps farms to be economically viable and maintains a local supply of provisions that is especially important for the older generation.
- Safeguarding local agriculture serves to protect biodiversity and areas of cultivation that have developed over the years.
- Jobs and purchasing power are kept in the local area by the consumer’s opting for regional produce, manufactured products and services.
- The goods are transported locally, thus helping to preserve valuable resources, cutting down on environmentally damaging exhaust fumes and thus contributing to the ever more important protection of the climate.
“Of Regional Origin” is, however, not confined to meat and other foods from the region: local crafts and services also need the financial support of the consumer in the region. The “Of Regional Origin” seal of quality was developed for all these areas of business and guarantees both that the product originates from the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region and that it is of best quality. Its motto, “From the Region for the Region,” helps strengthen regional economic cycles.
Try It – It’s Good!
The consumer decides which product he reaches for. “Of Regional Origin” therefore cooperates with its partner “ALLES” [“Everything”] from Feuchtwangen in suggesting and supporting the establishment of regional counters in the supermarkets of the Metropolitan Region. Already more than 120 retail stores sell the products of around 40 “Of Regional Origin” suppliers. In addition, “Of Regional Origin” backs stores and markets in the region run by the farmers themselves.
The initiative has also been able to win over numerous company canteens, for example the Siemens cafeterias, as partners who buy most of their fresh produce in the region.
Activities at trade fairs, consumer days, theme weeks in the catering trade and intensive public relations work are further proof of the initiative’s efforts to persuade more and more consumers in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region to purchase agricultural produce, products and services “of Regional Origin.”
The supply of goods "Of Regional Origin" is expanding. "Of Regional Origin" has won important partners in the OBI-Franken-Gruppe and the Baumarkt Pegnitztal GmbH & Co. KG for distributing local products. Since April 2008 18 OBI-markets offer plants grown in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region by local nursaries with the signet "Of Original Origin".
“Of Regional Origin” presents the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region as the home of the toy industry at the International Toy Fair. In this area too, buying on your doorstep makes ecological and economic sense. At the same time, the initiative demonstrates social responsibility: the exhibitors are requested to donate the items on display to the Marketing Association at the end of the fair. These are then distributed to children’s hospitals, nursery schools or special schools in the Metropolitan Region.
